Awards
The Australian Business Academy recognises the leadership and contribution of our students with the following annual awards:
Carmen Simpson Spirit of Achievement Award
This award is presented to a student who is selected from across all disciplines. It is judged by the academic and administrative staff collectively and awarded, not merely on the basis of academic achievement but also on the student's demonstration of the following characteristics and traits:
- Hardworking and committed to their chosen career
- High quest for learning
- Ability to be both a team leader and player
- Well mannered and presented
- Good attendance record and a demonstrated keenness to achieve to the best of their ability
Leadership Award
This is awarded for the demonstration of outstanding leadership qualities both inside and outside of the classroom. The recipient of this award will show a mature approach to all areas of their studies, personal life and community contribution. They will have assisted fellow students in their studies and been a leader of their peers. Selection criteria are based on the Rhodes' legacy as specified by the following four standards:
- literary and scholastic attainments
- energy to use one's talents to the full, as exemplified by fondness for and success in sports
- truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness and fellowship
- moral force of character and instincts to lead, and to take an interest in one's fellow beings
Winners of both the Carmen Simpson Spirit of Achievement Award and the Leadership Award are proudly recognised on Honour Boards in the foyer of each campus. Additionally, a graduate in each course offered by the Academy is presented with an Academic Excellence Award and an Industry Placement Award at the annual graduation ceremony.
In 2006, Josh Hanlon, a 2005 graduate of the Diploma of Business (Management) and Advanced Diploma of Business (Marketing) was announced as the 2006 ACT Vocational Student of the Year. The award recognises Josh as hardworking, energetic and committed to his chosen career. As a student of the Australian Business Academy, Josh won the Carmen Simpson Spirit of Achievement Award for the Class of 2005.
He achieved high grades in the communication units of his Advanced Diploma of Business (Marketing) and now feels comfortable relating to and communicating with people of all ages and backgrounds in his real estate marketing role.
Throughout school and at the Academy, Josh has exemplified the competence, professionalism and personal attributes required of an effective ambassador for his school, the Academy and now his employer, Peter Blackshaw Real Estate. Josh, his family and the Academy are very proud of the award.
